What does “here” mean to you?

YOU ARE HERE is an exhibition about place, identity, belonging, and the many different experiences that shape the way we see the world. No two people arrive at the same place by exactly the same path. We carry different histories, cultures, bodies, memories, challenges, traditions, and points of view, and those differences matter.

Art gives us a way to share those perspectives with one another. It can show us something familiar through someone else’s eyes, introduce us to an experience we have never had, or remind us that there is more than one way to understand a place, a community, or even ourselves.

At Artspace Guåhan, we believe a vibrant arts community is one in which more people are invited in, more voices are heard, and artists do not have to fit into a single definition of what an artist should be. Inclusion isn’t about making everyone the same. It is about creating enough space for our differences to exist side by side and recognizing that those differences make the conversation richer.

YOU ARE HERE brings together artists across backgrounds, identities, experience levels, and artistic disciplines to explore one simple but deeply personal question:

Where are you geographically, culturally, emotionally, or within your own story and what does being “here” mean to you?

Together, the works become a snapshot of many people standing in the same moment, but seeing it from entirely different places.

Different histories. Different bodies. Different places. Different experiences. Different ways of seeing.
